During its brainstorming stage, Moulin Rouge! The Musical had to take on the challenge of exceeding or at minimum being at equal footing with the 2001 motion picture created by Baz Luhrmann. The musical's current success tells us that Moulin Rouge! The Musical has more than lived up to the name with an impressive turnout each show from both fans and critics alike. Broadway World’s Miranda Keating even appreciated the show after watching, saying “Truthfully, as as I entered the theatre, I was immediately plunged into the beauty of what was designed as 19th century Paris. When the final act concluded, I initially had no visible reaction. The play's plot itself is your classic and tragic love story following Christian and Satine, an American writer travels to Montmartre, Paris to jumpstart his career as a writer and composer, and a star performer in the Moulin Rouge entertainment venue, respectively. Christian and Satine enter into a forbidden love as they get closer to each other, and it is in their entanglement that they face challenges that at many times seem insurmountable, though their love for each other pushes them on.
In the running time of 2 hours and 45 minutes of the full show, this show is presented mostly through song and dance, with spectacular musical scoring from the production, which is a mixture of mash-ups, medleys, and even songs from the 2001 film.
