Going back in time to the 20th century, a nostalgic time for the current generation, The stage adaptation, Back To The Future, features the beloved story from the original 1980s film and was also brought to life by the film’s makers, Bob Gale and Robert Zemeckis. The high-spirited and colorfully loud musical tells the narrative of Marty McFly, an easygoing high school kid.
The story begins as Marty McFly goes through a normal routine in a young adult's life, enjoying his hobbies (especially in his school band) and spending time with his girlfriend, Jennifer, all while being utterly nosy of entirely new experiences. His uncontrollable interest turns out to be his single liability, as upon connecting with Doc Brown on a fateful day, Brown proclaims that is the first time traveler to make a transtemporal device (which turns out to be the DeLorean) operate. An unexpected event that happens during their meeting causes Marty to drive the DeLorean, surprising him and moving him away in time to 1955. Initially in awe of what just happened to him, Marty eventually surmises that to make his way back to his own time, he must also correct the past, and his mother and father who have yet to fall in love, back to the right track.
With similar creatives from the film it was adapted from, each scene location of the musical acts as respect and acknowledgment of the set designs from the original film, including Doc's lab, the McFly's house, Hill Valley High School, and many sets in the Hill Valley community. Both the stage and outfit creations also give reverence to both the 1950s and 1980s. Back To The Future’s transfer to the live platform allowed it to showcase one of the top franchises of all time, while applying tweaks and modernization made achievable in a stage adaptation.
