"Water. Earth. Fire. Air. Long ago, the four nations lived together in harmony. Everything changed when the Fire Nation attacked." First aired in 2005, AVATAR: THE LAST AIRBENDER became instant favorites among a generation of Nickelodeon kids and teens. Now, beloved animated series continues to make an impact as one of the most iconic animated shows of the decade. This time, it's all coming back to the live stage. In perfect harmony, a full orchestra will be playing the animated series' iconic score at AVATAR: THE LAST AIRBENDER IN CONCERT.
Composer Jeremy Zuckerman created the series' original music, and he's teamed up with co-creators Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko with original editor Jeff Adams to create a live concert experience of Avatar's compositions for the big stage. Following sold-out shows in London, NYC, and San Francisco, this unique concert experience is going global with over a hundred shows scheduled across North America, Europe, and the Asia-Pacific.
As the live orchestra plays familiar tunes and iconic hits from the 2005 animated series, memorable clips across all three seasons will be played on the big screen. You'll be listening to familiar favorites such as "Secret Tunnel", "Leaves from the Vine", and even instrumental compositions that'll spark core memories.
"Some of these compositions are over 20 years old. It didn’t occur to me then that the music would be so enduring," Zuckerman shared in a conversation with Variety. "I think its longevity is a testament to the quality of the ‘Avatar: The Last Airbender’ story, as much as — if not more so — to the quality of the music."
Following the journey of twelve-year-old Aang, the last survivor of the Air Nomads, he's the world's only hope as the last Avatar, the only one who can master all four elements - Earth, Water, Air, and Fire. Its story got audiences around the world hooked, inspiring kids and teens along the way. Its music brought the series to further heights, offering a unique vibe to the story's intense build up.
"Now, years later, there are so many things I wouldn’t do compositionally and creatively … In my mind, the music was being generated by an orchestra. But that was so beyond the budget. It didn’t even enter into the realm of possibility," Zuckerman told Variety. "And now here we are 20-plus years later, actually getting to hear this music performed by an orchestra, sounding close to what it would’ve been like in my 26-year-old self’s most indulgent fantasies. I’m so profoundly amazed and grateful."
Konietzko shares how it's amazing to witness Zuckerman's compositions be given the grand treatment it always deserved. "The fans have shared our passion for his score for nearly two decades, and we’re so proud to have it brought to life and delivered to them in such a powerful way," he added.
From 2005 to 2008, the Emmy Award-winning Nickelodeon series became one of the most beloved by the network globally.
