Life of Pi at Buell Theatre

Most people know the story of Life of Pi because of the film. Director Ang Lee and his team did an amazing job adapting the source material, which comes from the novel by Yann Martel. Martel actually helped with the playwright for Life of Pi the Musical along with premier theater writer Lolita Chakrabarti. This is relevant because it means this version captures the soul of the story, even in this new format. There are two ideas that are in play throughout the show. It's mainly about Pi's fight for actual survival, while trying not to lose his mind in the process. This allows the story to gravitate from his conscious to his subconscious mind. The story arch is so complex, and yet it doesn't scare people away because until you're completely emerged in the plot, you realize how dense it is.

This musical hasn't been around for too long; the first-ever official performance was in 2019. Since then, it has filled auditoriums throughout the UK, while also having an extensive run in London's West End before heading to Broadway. It's picked up accolades from fans and esteemed theater award shows along the way. Life of Pi is coming to the The Buell Theatre in Denver, Colorado in an effort to get more people to see the story. Since it's not a musical that's been around for years on end, there's a good chance that you've never been at a theater to see it. If you come out on this Saturday 29th March 2025, you're going to be in for quite a few surprises. It's not only a story that pushes you to think deeply about what you'll witness on stage. The puppet design is like nothing Broadway had ever seen before. Another key part of the show is the lighting and the stage setup; everything works in harmony to bring forth a memorable story.

Since both the performers and the stage itself are essential to the way the story is told, finding the right place to take it all in is key to the whole experience. Being too close to the action on this Saturday night may backfire on you. Looking into elevated seats or spots in the middle or back rows could be a better option.
