Mamma Mia! goes live at the Buell Theatre on Tuesday, October 31st. The show will run at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts for an entire week until November 5th, 2023.
In Mamma Mia!, the timeless songs of ABBA are masterfully used to tell a tale of love, friendship, and identity that is set on an island in Greece. On the eve of a wedding they won't soon forget, Sophie's search to find the father she's never known forces her mother to confront three men from her long-ago romantic past.
The East Midland Theater shares that the production has no less than 24 songs from the ABBA back catalog. When viewers see Donna Sheridan emerge from the fabled blue door carrying her handy drill, they know they are in for an ABBA-fueled treat because of the film's instantly recognizable soundtrack written by Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus.
With this, their review continues to claim that the jukebox musical successfully pays homage to the Swedish-born group that changed the face of music with their unique sound. This does not come as a surprise as the show is globally renowned for gaining multiple Tony Award and Drama Desk Award nominations. In 2002, the Broadway spectacle won “Best Book of a Musical,” and “Best Orchestrations.”
The show’s opening number is a medley of the band's songs, highlighting the talented cast and igniting the celebration that would continue for the next two hours. Although the film came first, the majority of the audience will have seen it, which may add additional pressure, especially without the benefit of stunning scenery and a celebrity cast. Still, The Manchester Media Group states that the stage production added more depth and context to a tale and musical that so many people adore.
“The appeal of the musical, besides the obvious fun-loving songs, glitter, and scantily clad men, is its story of real friendship,” Met Media shares.
The Buell Theatre is the main venue in the Denver Performing Arts Complex which consistently ranks as one of the top-rated venues with fewer than 5,000 seats nationwide. It is the perfect venue for Broadway productions, elaborate musicals, and shows featuring eye-catching special effects. Set on a musical cruise with the beloved cast, and purchase your tickets now!
